Letter: What does it mean to be a member of Hokie Nation?
Letter to the Editor
April 26, 2007

What does it mean to be a member of Hokie Nation? Last fall, it meant waking up at 7:30 in the morning on a Saturday just to be prepared for the noon kickoff. It meant sharing these times, with these friends and acknowledging them as some of the greatest days of your lives. It meant knowing that Lee Corso was always wrong. It meant knowing why every vacuum cleaner in every apartment was nicknamed Duke or UVa. It meant living your lives with the zest, zeal, fervor, enthusiasm and intensity that can only be described as college.

The events of this past Black Monday have defined a new dimension in the Hokie Nation. We each endured the darkest days of our lives and it brought us all to Ut Prosim. That we may serve. You are now here to support every other person who wears maroon and orange, who identifies themselves as Hokies. And they are all here to support you. It is love unconditional. It is love without consequence. And it is what makes us strong: Hokie Strong.

We cannot allow the events of April 16, 2007 define how we live our lives from here on out. But rather, it is how we live our lives from here that will define the events of this past Monday. Though these events may have shaken our individuals to their very cores, together we are the Hokies and together we can begin to heal. Hokie Nation lives on. Hokie Nation lives strong.
