After a rainy week, weekend looks to be clear and sunny
Updated: August 13, 2014 - 5:50 pm

The cold front which brought plenty of clouds and showers throughout the first half of the week has finally exited off the eastern seaboard. Over a span of three days, this front helped drop 1.95” of rain in Blacksburg. High pressure has now taken over for the weekend, bringing with it much drier conditions.

So I thought it was about time to reveal more of the nitty gritty about myself. And give to you the yummy list of music! i have to say that's my favorite part of this snippet, sharing the music that becomes the embodiment of inspiration for me. I hope you may find such a treat in your life. whether its watching sports, action films, reading plays, soaking in nature, seeing life through a lens--I hope whatever it is that inspires the joy in your life that you never let that passion go; the passion that lets you recognize life is as wonderful and grand as you dream it to be.

In other news, Fall is approaching! And I gotta say the dancing leaves and the changing scenery makes me feel all cozy and warm inside. Even though the trees are literally dying to survive the winter--they do make a captivating departure. As if dying is just as beautiful and majestic as living. Ah---I'm smitten with Autumn. :]

But here is the list of music. (Artist.Title) All available on itunes or if you myspace search the artists' name--they generally have a music page. Save the music! Buy the music :P

The Virgins. Rich Girls.

Radiohead. Talk Show Host.

Bob Marley. Redemption Song.

John Mayer. In Your Atmosphere(Acoustic).

Jump, Little Children. Mexico.

Jack's Mannequin. Bloodshot.

Ingrid Michaelson. Breakable.

Now--random facts about myself. Hmmmm...I've named every stuffed animal I've ever owned. I've had hundreds since I was young, and if I saw them again I bet you I could recall every single one of their names. I only have three buddies now. Ducky the duck(whom I've had for a good 15 years), Remi the bear(my brother and I bought each other matching bears--his is named reginald), and Philip the dolphin(whom I got from seaworld). I have a tiny alpaca named Kooskoos, but he's more of a figurine sitting on top of my printer.

tada! and the creme de la creme. a photo of yours truely,

Homesick?
Updated: July 09, 2013 - 11:22 am

This weekend is Fall Break. How many of you are going home? I know I am. I'll be the first to admit that I've been dreaming about homemade food (and Chipotle), staring at pictures of my dog Huck and putting off laundry for as long as hygenically possible.

Flash back to the '80s and early '90s -- hair bands and uber-rebellious fashion fads consume the mind. But as all trends make their rounds and return after decades of hibernation, are we finally witnessing the homecoming of the acid wash jean?

We've seen the occasional remnants of the oh-so-iconic denim style each year, but it seems to have returned with a vengeance on the runway of the Balmain Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear show in Paris.

What to think about this re-emergence? Well, it may not sate every woman's sartorial thirst, but the jeans sure do look surprisingly fresh paired with a feminine leather jacket or a fun embellished print. Who knew?

Style.com

Style.com

Style.com

So, has anyone noticed that some pretty questionable TV shows have some pretty good music?

I started picking up on this phenomenon in the days of the O.C. And even though I secretly loved the O.C., I was mildly horrified to hear some of my favorite indie tunes (Sufjan Stevens, Bloc Party, Rogue Wave, Mates of State, Belle & Sebastian) playing in the background of Ryan and Marissa's heinous 67th break-up.

Shortly thereafter, I realized that another popular teenage soap was playing indie music: One Tree Hill. Now, you might be wondering why on Earth I watch so many trashy teenage soaps. But that is irrelevant. One Tree Hill has featured songs by The National, Broken Social Scene, Band of Horses, Spoon, Trespassers William, Stars...the list goes on.

Then, there was Grey's Anatomy. House. Heroes. (Except House and Heroes aren't trashy, they're just awesome). More recently, there's been Gossip Girl and 90210. Now, I want to say that I've embraced this good-music-on-TV trend, but honestly I'm a still a little iffy. While some shows can pull it off, I'm afraid that others fall completely flat on their faces. I despise when shows take a perfectly awesome song and play it over a scene that is completely inappropriate/incompatible with the song. I also hate when a show plays multiple songs in a row, without any regard to the sequence of events. Instead of trying to match the music with the scene, a lot of times it just seems like the show just wants to show off their indie-cred. That's bad.

So, I guess this is my final caveat: Exposing indie music to the world is lovely, but not if you're going to butcher it.

College Football 101
Updated: July 09, 2013 - 11:21 am

The art of sports hating is a fun one to pick up on – I fully embrace the spirit all of our beloved rivalries and don’t get me started on the Cowboys but sometimes it just becomes stupid. I’m speaking of course about the blog directly below this one, bashing the USC Trojans for their supposed consistent over-ranking. To start, I think it's fair to state my bias. I am a USC football fan, always have been and always will be and I have the emotional scars from the disastrous late 90s to prove it. That being said, I am also a big fan of college football in general and have come to appreciate the distinct dynasties, rituals, rivalries, and streaks which make the sport so great. I realize the frustration Ray feels and understand that he picked a very easy topic to rant about. Cheering against USC is a popular position to take outside of Trojan Country.
