Official Police Report Narrative >

Former Virginia Tech and current Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick aroused suspicion of Transportation Security Administration officials Wednesday morning at Miami International Airport.

At 7:15 a.m., Vick attempted to clear security at MIA’s Concourse G where he was reluctant to dispose of his 20-ounce “Aquafina” water bottle.  TSA only permits three-ounce containers through security checkpoints.

Vick subsequently gave up the bottle — although he was reluctant — which was placed in a recycling bin by TSA screener Gertrude Joseph.

Vick then completed his security screening and proceeded to catch AirTran flight 338 to Altanta, G.a.

However, according to a Miami-Dade Police Department report, “The passenger’s reluctance to relinquish a simple water bottle aroused the suspicions of TSA screener Gertrude Joseph.  Joseph retrieved the bottle and upon further investigation found the concealed compartment.”

“The bottle’s label concealed a seam which separated the top and bottom of the bottle,” states the report obtained from the Miami-Dade Police Department. “The concealed compartment contained a small amount of dark particulate and a pungent aroma closely associated with Marijuana.”

The report states that digital surveillance video of the incident substantiates TSA officials’ version of events.

The bottle is scheduled to be transported to a Miami-Dade Police Department lab for further analysis.

A Miami-Dade Police Department official stated that the investigation is currently ongoing, however Vick has yet to be charged with any wrongdoing.

According to reports, Florida law classifies possession of less than 20 ounces of marijuana as a misdemeanor, which is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000 and one-year imprisonment.  However, first-time offenders rarely serve time in prison.
