Mattheus “Stretch” Carroll, a weakside defensive end from Baltimore, Maryland, committed to play for Virginia Tech on May 31, 2020. The 6-foot-3-inch, 220-pound athlete is ranked the 52nd weakside DE in the country. Carroll is also ranked the 27th overall player in Maryland for his graduating class.
The three-star prospect acquired 11 sacks in 2019 which earned him an All-MIAA (Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association) selection. This impressive season secured him entrance into the Baltimore Touchdown Club Super 22 team.
“The Hamilton Tigers Youth Football program taught me how to compete amongst other talented players which I am ready to do at the next level … This path has not been easy, but I wouldn’t want to change a thing,” Carroll said in his announcement video on Instagram.
The Gilman High School rising senior is one of nine commitments from the class of 2021 to play for Virginia Tech. As the only defensive end thus far, he shows promise to be an instrumental player for the incoming class of Hokies.
