After taking their first ACC win against their Commonwealth rival, UVA, the Virginia Tech Hokies suffered three straight losses. The Hokies took on the UNC Tar Heels at home looking for their second win in the ACC on Nov. 12.
The Tar Heels flexed their muscles in set one, putting in 14 kills while the Hokies had only seven. The Tar Heels took set one 25–13, leaving the Hokies to rethink their strategy.
The Hokies did change their strategy in a more organized and aggressive performance.. The Hokies turned the tables with 15 kills, while the Tar Heels had only seven. The Hokies won set two 25–11, their largest lead in the ACC.
Both teams went neck and neck in set three, with neither team taking more than a two-point lead. Towards the end of the set, the Tar Heels found gaps in the Hokies’ defense and took the set 25–23.
The battle continued into set four, with neither team letting the other lead, but the Hokies soon lost their momentum and let their opponents take the lead. The Tar Heels won the set 25–17 and the match 3–1.
