Residents of a Blacksburg apartment complex called police to report hearing gunshots in the 700 block of Applachian Drive at 3:49 a.m. this morning, police Capt. Bruce Bradbery told the Roanoke Times.
Police are currently looking for whoever is responsible for firing the shots into an apartment where a Virginia Tech student currently lives. No one was hurt in the incident, and police say that evidence collected at the scene shows the apartment was hit with shots from two different guns.
Bradbery said that it appeared a single apartment in a multi-unit building was targeted, and three Virginia Tech students, males aged 21, 22 and 23 were inside at the time, but no one was injured. The police are not currently naming the students for their protection.
Police reported that one of the students lives in the apartment, and the other two were visiting. The evidence at the scene showed that seven shots were fired from 9mm handgun. At least two of those rounds went through the apartment.
A sliding glass patio door was shot out, and police found bullet holes in the wall and the ceiling of the apartment.
One shotgun blast also struck the building.
"From outside, they just riddled the place with bullets," Bradbery told the Roanoke Times.
Witnesses have reported seeing a small black car in the area when the shooting began, and told police the car left as the shooting stopped.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Blacksburg police at 540-961-1150.

I agree. I feel a little unsafe in the area right now.

How long is it going to be until innocent people will be killed by a drive-by. If I didn't have 5 weeks left in Blacksburg I would definitely be moving out. On top of that, the resident(s) is/are still occupying the apartment. Does that not endanger themselves and everyone that lives in the area?

And yet Virginia Tech refuses to spend more money/offer more training for their campus watch security guards. Currently the guards are running around with hand me down police radios that can't hold a charge for a full shift, 2 D cell mag light flashlights (if they're lucky, some don't have any lights at all!) worn out uniforms, and no training. Vtech does however have money to add 3 more clock faces to the Inn at Virginia Tech, and to pay Steger over 450k per year. Good to know their priorities are in order isnt it?
