The New York Yankees, 26-time World Series champions, will take on the Virginia Tech baseball team on March 18 in a much-anticipated game at Tech's own English Field. However, much planning and preparation must be done before the game can begin.
To accommodate extras fans expected for the game, renovations are being made to the baseball area including terracing the grass-covered hill and realigning the left and right field foul line fences.
Temporary bleachers will also be added.
While Yankee Stadium can hold 57,000 people, even with the renovations English Field will only allow a maximum of 5,000 people. English Field currently seats just over 1,000 people.
For the game, the Hokies will also change their game a little bit. The team will play with wooden bats as opposed to the aluminum bats that college leagues normally use.
Tickets for event will not be offered to the general public for sale. Jon Jaudon, Tech associate athletic director, said the ticket distribution system has yet been determined, but it should be similar to the basketball and football lottery.
"This is the chance of a lifetime," Jaudon said.
Once details have been ironed out between the media, the Tech athletic department and the Yankee administration, the university will release its ticket distribution plan. The announcement should come at the end of the month or early in February.
After April 16, the Yankees donated $1 million dollars to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund and committed to a match against Tech's baseball team.
"I'm excited not just because we get to play them, but because it's for a good cause," said Tony Balisteri, freshman shortstop for Tech and a Yankees fan. "Derek Jeter has always been my role model, so this will mean a lot to me."
Jason Zillo, team spokesman for the Yankees, said the team wanted to do more than just give money.
"We wanted to help the healing process and lend the Yankee name to help raise awareness," Zillo said.
"The donation and the game are our way of showing our support to Virginia Tech and the community," Zillo said.

Hopefully, there will be some area, outside of the ballpark, that the expected overflow crowd can get a "distant" view of the game.

This should only be opened to students, but I bet you see well connected administrators and alumni at the game.

I do realize the Yankees contributed to the 16th fund, and maybe Boston did as well? However, my point about the hats is that there's already so many clueless / untrue bandwagon fans for the Yankees and Redsox, it makes me sick. I just think it's a joke for a University to jump on board as well.

If you have a good eye, it can be easy to spot an image that's been Photoshopped. Of course, the best image alterations can be almost undetectable, which can pose problems if you absolutely must know if the picture is genuine. This is why you need to consult Photoshopped Image Killer , which is the equivalent of gun ballistics for pictures.
