To commemorate the events of April 16, The Perspective Gallery in Squires Student Center will have an exhibit featuring memorabilia of the day from April 5 to April 20.
The exhibit will feature photographs sent in by anyone who was affected in some way by April 16.
It will also feature items that were sent to Tech from other places in the world.
"There are thousands of items over at the prevail archives in the Corporate Research Center, and I am picking select items to put on display," said Mary Tartaro, art programs coordinator for University Unions and Student Activities.
There will be a special documentary photography show that will include all of the pictures that were sent.
"The photography featured will be photos from April 16 until now, to bring the whole thing full circle," Tartaro said. "It will recognize all the support from the community and the world and also show how the whole community is doing now."
Tamara Kennelly, university archivist and digital librarian, said it is great that people all over the community can experience the photos.
"We are very grateful for all of the materials we have received from all over the world," Kennelly said. "We treat every item received with great respect and we are glad some of them can be shared."
The Perspective Gallery decided in September that they would be putting on a gallery for April 16.
"This will just serve as another gathering place where students can come and remember," said Tartaro. "It will be a very emotional time, which is why I want to try and create a warm feeling at the gallery and show all of the support that Tech received. For the people that were not here last year, this will be a way that they can maybe understand the events a little more."
Matt Winchell, a sophomore business management major, plans to go to the show.
"I think it's a really good idea," said Winchell. "When April 16 originally happened, seeing all the gifts from all over the world (on the Drillfield and in Burruss) was an incredible experience.
Located on the second floor of Squires Student Center, the Perspective Gallery exhibits local, national and international art shows. The gallery is closed on Mondays, but is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.
Anyone wishing to send pictures for the show can e-mail them to tartaro@vt.edu or bring them by the Perspective Gallery.
