: I really think it's the same as I am now; I wasn't maybe the coolest kid ever but not the dorkiest. It wasn't like I had every girl, but I always had dates to prom and whatever else.
I was probably the same, being really talkative and really goofy. I talked way too much in class and got in lots of trouble for it always. But I wouldn't say I was a bad kid or anything.
I was playing music all through high school ... I put out my first record in high school so I always had shows at coffee houses and bars, and I always had friends coming out to those and being supportive.
And all the freshmen, young girls thought I was a big deal, which was awesome. I was like "Yeah, I'm like such a star right now."
Q
: Focusing on your career ahead, are there any huge goals you have in mind and anyone in particular you'd love to work with at some point?
A
: I would love to work with Jack White; I think he's really great. It'd be fun to be like a superstar band like the Traveling Wilburys. Maybe me singing, and Corinne Bailey Rae on vocals also, and some random other people like Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers on bass.
Maybe John Mayer on guitar, Dave Grohl on drums, have Jack White also in there somewhere, not like I've thought it out or anything. Goal-wise, though, it would just be to keep doing this for a long time.
It's such a goal in itself and so hard to even stay in this business. Just to stay inspired and to keep doing things that allow me to do this for a living would be the best.
Q
: Who do you feel is a role model to you? Who in your life would you say you strive to be like?
A
: My dad's my manager, so I think his opinion is the most important to me, and you know he's probably the one I most closely emulate. I think he's got great opinions on music and life; he's really good for me to have around, for sure.
Q
: Where do you see yourself in ten years?
A
: In ten years, I'll be 34. You know I would love to do my best stuff in my 30s, 40s, 50s, and even 60s and 70s. So as long as I'm farther along in ten years than I am now, I've made more of a difference then than I have now. I'm making better art, and I'm happier then than I am now, then I'll be on the track.
And that's where I'd like to see myself for sure.
