Taylor likely to redshirt

Sean Glennon will likely be named the Virginia Tech football team's starting quarterback by head coach Frank Beamer in a press luncheon on Tuesday at 1 p.m., a source close to the football team has told the Collegiate Times.

Tyrod Taylor will likely then be redshirted, forgoing his true sophomore season and earning an extra year of eligibility.

The quarterback controversy began at the beginning of last season after Glennon's performance in a non-conference game against LSU was highly scrutinized.

Glennon was removed from the lineup for the remainder of the game, in favor of Taylor. Taylor's performance earned him the starting job until an ankle injury against Duke forced him to the sideline.

After he had made a full recovery, Beamer decided to employ a two-quarterback system, in which Glennon and Taylor would split time on the field, a strategy to throw off opposing defenses.

With Glennon starting and Taylor's redshirt keeping him from seeing game time action, the backup quarterback job will fall to senior Corey Holt and the scout team quarterbacks.

First of all, if this is even true, why would they announce this before the ECU matchup?! Or is there a deadline for declaring the redshirt? If this is true all I have to say is nooooooo, it's gonna be a long season.

I think it's the best decision for all involved. It should be good for Tyrod to get another year of eligibility after Sean departs. Sure, Tyrod might not use that 5th year, but I think it will be beneficial to him to have that choice. It will certainly be good for Sean. He won't have to worry about looking over his shoulder, and it will be easier for him to get into a rhythm without the QB rotation. Most importantly, it is good for the team -- not this year, but over the following three years as the team makes another run at a top ranking in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Might be a good choice.... might be a down year this year, considering we have no receivers so let Glennon crash and burn with the young offense and let Taylor have one more year of eligibility

Obviously this guy is a complete moron. No way Taylor redshirts OR he is a doomsday prophet and I will not be able to bear watching one more snap of Glennon.

obviously you have no clue what you are talking about when you say its a "DOWN YEAR". There is great talent at both RB and WR positions, VT will be fine with either QB. You Glennon haters need to get a grip, look at his stats, and stand behind your QB.

It's his fifth year. He has shown what he can do... deserves some respect, but man when he is bad... HE IS BAD!

I take it Frank and company decided to give up on keeping our consecutive bowl streak intact. Our RB situation is not as solid as people would have you think and EVERYONE knows our passing game is going to be nonexistent. We need to let Sean ride pine and get back to running some type of option/veer type offense this year.
