The first-ever Gobblerfest will be held outside Squires Student Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

Designed to welcome new and returning students to the Tech campus, Gobblerfest will provide opportunities for students to mingle and explore different ways they can get involved on and around campus. The event consists of different fairs, expos, activities and free food.

Preparation for the event began in March of last year, when Gobblerfest staff began working with the bands, Virginia Tech Union and vendors. Cameron Smith, Class of 2010 special events co-chair, said that a substantial amount of the activity had to be completed once students returned to campus, packing significant planning into a limited amount of time.

From 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., the Class of 2010 Kick-Off Concert will feature Slightly Something and the Pat McGee Band.

"We are hoping that we will get a better turn-out for Kick Off Concert this year because we planned it for the day of Gobblerfest, hoping that it would be a continuation of the day's events," Smith said.

The complete schedule and more information on the different events, along with the link to the Facebook page, are available at the event's Web site: www.gobblerfest.org.
