Three years ago I took some friends to watch the Hokies play Miami at Lane Stadium. We didn't play very well, and we lost.
We happened to be sitting (standing) next to a Miami fan and in the 4th quarter with the game pretty much over, our fans were all still there, just as loud as always roaring for our defense.
The Miami fan looked over to me and said, "Your fans are incredible, you all are getting your tails whipped and everyone is still here cheering for your players. I've been to Michigan, Penn State and Florida State, and when the game goes this way, their fans boo or leave."
I left the game disappointed that we lost, but as always proud to be a Hokie. Saturday I didn't make it to the game, but I watched it on the Internet. I was rather disgusted when our fans started booing when Sean Glennon entered the game. I don't care who you think should be playing quarterback, but Glennon is a Hokie, and he has worked his butt off and would do anything to help his team win.
Coaches decide who plays, and, in one particular instance, Tyrod Taylor was winded and asked to come out.
For four years I went to every single home game in Lane Stadium. I never once booed one of our players. For the most part the only guys I ever saw booing our players were a bunch of drunk jerks and snobs.
Virginia Tech is the best college football environment in the country. Don't ruin it by acting like you belong at a lesser school, and don't tolerate the people around you in the stands acting likes jerks either. Cheer whichever of our players are on the field; they are all Hokies.

The fact that glennon sucks is besides the point.... hes inconsistent and then says bone head things in the paper like its not his fault and he played "90%" good football. Hes also just a arrogant a**hole to, if he gets drafted to the pros, ill be sure to never watch pro football gain

We boo because some of us have been here since that 2005 season. We saw the highly ranked #3 Hokies loose to a Miami team and then later to Florida State, thus completely loosing a shot at the title game (not that we would have beaten USC or U-Texas). There is something with the coaching that sucks and now for the past few years there has been something a particular QB that sucks.

Some of us have been here longer than that and we boo because they live up to the name chokeies.

And I watched them in the 90s...when they lost to temple, and didn't boo them. So once again, you are admitting to being a bunch on snobs, like you are entitled to perfect games. The bonehead you speak of has never been in trouble, has completed 2 degrees and is working on his masters. He holds several lifting records for the qb position at tech. Basically, he's worked his butt off, if he says in frustration that hed like to contribute more I don't blame him. All of you would too, and I hope they start kicking you out of games if you boo any of our players for anything less than stomping on someone.

Thank you so much for writing this. I completely agree. I stood in front of some of those people last week and then yesterday when we weren't doing too great they were yelling "Tyrod Sucks! Put Glennon in!" How freaking idiotic can you be? I'm sick of fair-weather fans who only cheer for a team when they're winning. Do us all a favor, if you're going to boo your own team, stay at home because it is completely embarrassing. Also, I would like to see any one of you do half as well as any of our football players do with half the amount of pressure. There's a reason that they're on the team and you're not. If you want to boo our football team, try to walk on and let one of them knock the crap out of you... then if you still think what they're doing is easy, you have my permission to boo.

I agree that you shouldn't boo your own team, but the argument that just because I can't play football doesn't mean that I can't have an opinion on the team. My inability to throw a football has no effect on whether Glennon can.

Yeah, I don't see anyone out there saying they can play. It's not about that. And I am pretty sure you're making that about people yelling Tyrod sucks, put glennon in. I was there. I didn't hear anything even close to that being yelled. BS!

Yeah...I was at this game and I believe that our fans had their heads down for 3 quarters. It was more like a UVa game than a Tech game. It was a lost cause from the beginning. Who are you fooling, kid?
