Here's a look at the games involving ACC schools this weekend.
No. 23 California atMaryland (Noon):
The Terrapins and Bears meet up for the first time. Cal took apart the Washington State Cougars last weekend, winning 66-3 and racking up 505 total yards. Now, they go across the country to College Park. Maryland beat Delaware in its opener before losing to Middle Tennessee. It's been a struggle for the Terps, who rank 105th in scoring, even with one of the most experienced offensive groups in the conference. Maryland has won its last two contests against ranked opponents.
Navy at Duke (Noon):
The head coaching transition from Paul Johnson to Ken Niumatalolo has not affected the offense for the Midshipmen. They still lead the country in rushing, averaging 452 yards on the ground after two games. They also return their once-injured senior quarterback, Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada. Duke will counter with an aerial attack. Quarterback Thaddeus Lewis threw for 428 yards and accounted for five touchdowns in last year's match up with Navy. It might happen again this time. The Midshipmen rank 112th against the pass.
North Carolina State at Clemson (Noon):
Death Valley is the site for two clubs playing their conference opener, each with differing expectations for the entire season. The Wolfpack are without their leading receiver -- Donald Bowens -- as well as its leading rusher -- Jamelle Eugene -- from 2007. Clemson has many returning starters -- including quarterback Cullen Harper and running backs C.J. Spiller and James Davis. The Tigers, trying to shake off an opening game loss to Alabama, are still the favorite to win the ACC.
Chattanooga at Florida State (3:45):
In the Seminoles' only game this year, they trounced Western Carolina -- as expected -- by a score of 69-0. The Mocs have already played one BCS-conference opponent, losing to Oklahoma, 57-2. Things won't get much easier against Florida State. The 'Noles used two quarterbacks in their season opener, as redshirt sophomores Christian Ponder and D'Vontrey Richardson recorded three touchdowns each.
Virginia at Connecticut (7:30):
The Cavaliers got their first win of the season last Saturday, but suffered a tough loss this week. Quarterback Peter Lalich, clouded with legal issues, will not make the trip to Stoors. Marc Verica will start in Lalich's place against last year's Big East co-Champions. The Huskies haven't allowed a touchdown in their two games -- a 35-3 win over Hofstra and a 12-9 overtime victory against Temple.
