Two-party system fails to meet voters' needs
I just wanted to say great job to Daron Williams for his column, "Wasted Vote: Two-party system fails today's voters." (CT, Sept 22) Because of the "us vs. them" mentality created by the two-party monopoly, the country becomes increasingly polarized, political discourse spirals into the mud, and the major problems in the U.S. remain unaddressed.
For these reasons, I have been a proponent of additional viable political parties for many years.I fail to see how any reasonable person can argue that the current two-party system is superior in any way to the multi-party systems prevalent in other democracies around the world. The column was right on target.

And you can partially thank Thomas Jefferson for that. The founder of UVa (boo) and more importantly the founder of the modern day Democrat Party

I'm not sure if it's true, but I saw where AT&T, the first debate's corporate sponsor, is seriously considering opening the debate, if enough people call in. ...AT&T 1-800-283-6407

Sorry about that. I will be sure to keep that in mind. :) I wasn't even sure if people would pay attention anyway, to be honest. ...Anyway, please consider reading the following article: http://www.publicintegrity.org/articles/entry/712/("Two-Party Debates") It also examines the truth about the debate commission. ...Additionally, I wanted to mention that if people want to see an alternative debate with ALL six of the presidential candidates, please consider making a pledge at http://www.thirdpartyticket.com/ by Oct. 8... Thanks!

I think it's a shame for our democracy when other countries cover one of our legitimate presidential candidates more than the U.S. media. Russia Today has put out the following video ("Independent U.S. candidate banned from debates"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tM5iEE2eRq0&feature People don't understand how the media and our two parties dictate how we view non-corporate candidates. People need to seek out information and ignore the media. When we do, we learn things like how BOTH parties are failing us, and it's those same parties with the help of their corporate backers that have convinced us that there is no alternative. We need to fight for democracy.

...I get so tired of hearing how Gore lost the 2000 election because of Nader. No. The Supreme Court gave it to Bush. Or blame the people that voted for Bush. Better yet, blame Gore for losing votes and not being the best candidate. ...Nader is not out for himself. He is standing up for the people. He wants a people's government, not a corporate government. I wish everyone would have the courage to stand with Nader as he has had the courage all these years to fight for us, the American people... Please follow the money trail, and keep in mind that BOTH Obama and McCain have economic advisors that had a part in bringing about our current economic mess. ...If people are expecting another FDR with Obama, they would be mistaken. FDR didn't have corporations whispering in his ear when he took office. ...Additionally, I think there are a lot of McCain supporters who would actually support Barr or Baldwin if they just did a little research.

I think it’s time for a real discussion about the problems that our nation faces. I'm tired of the bickering. Who cares about bracelets, the height of Koreans, or talks with Spain? Both Obama and McCain ignored any real talk about the economy in the debate. That's why we need an open debate with all six candidates. It would force Obama and McCain off script. ...Please pledge for an alternative debate: http://www.thirdpartyticket.com/

The funny thing about people being scared to vote Nader is they say he is too "left." The thing is he believes these things because other Americans, a lot of them, believe the same thing. So if America did not want something, he wouldn't support it. Unlike this 700 Billion dollar bailout, America does not want it, Bush and Congress want it so it was passed. Nader would not allow it to pass. So who had the Americans best interest in mind now?

I'm not sure if that video is still available, but there's this one, too, from a few days ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7aC7CyOP0Q

The Collegiate Times should consider doing a story on the presidential debate commission; it's a farce and something voters desperately need to be aware of. People really can't trust the mainstream media for the full story. It's bad journalism... http://www.publicintegrity.org/articles/entry/712/("Two-Party Debates") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyvVQYf6XWk ("No Democracy in America") ...Don't forget to sign the pledge...

I haven't trusted the mainstream media since its coverage of April 16th. Its current coverage of the bailout is hilarious. It’s clearly pushing its own agenda and pretty much calling average Americans stupid.

People allow their fears to dictate their vote. They choose what they perceive is the lesser of two evils, and in turn they are really voting against themselves. It feels a whole lot better to vote for someone you know will truly represent you, and imagine what could happen if everyone did that. Real change could come to Washington.

Please don't forget to pledge for an alternative debate with all 6 candidates: http://www.thirdpartyticket.com/ ...Just a little over 3,000 pledges left before hitting the 10,000 mark... Be sure to pass it on to others and continue to spread the word about our broken political system... Thanks! :)

I urge any Obama supporters to consider reading the following articles about the realities of his campaign. They’re proof once again as to why the American people need to fight to open the debates and expose both parties for what they real are – the pawns of corporations. http://www.counterpunch.org/martens05052008.html http://www.counterpunch.org/martens05062008.html
