Lottery system alienates basketball fan base

I recently checked the results of the basketball student season ticket lottery and much to my surprise, I have been denied the ability to purchase season tickets. I find this unacceptable, and so should you. There is no better way to alienate a fan base than to deny returning season ticket holders the ability to purchase season tickets. I am a graduate student and have suddenly gone from fourth row at every game to no row for any game, so you can imagine I am a little upset.

Nonetheless, if this issue is not resolved in a timely manner, I will begin to look at other media until my voice is recognized. This includes, but is not limited to: the Collegiate Times, head basketball coach Seth Greenberg, and Director of Athletics Jim Weaver.

If necessary, I will also begin to organize other people in a similar situation to mine. This will create a concise and directed argument to infuriating policies. It will also give the ticket office a measurable amount of the demographics (i.e. number of graduate students) of enraged students, just in case this type of data was not tied to the lottery in the first place.

Ironically, my degrees involve the design of systems in order to maximize stakeholder satisfaction. It is a shame these practices have not found their way across campus yet. Do not worry, since I will be completing my master's in May; I will be out of your hair soon enough. Of course, you can stay out of mine by never bothering to ask for a donation. Thank you for the sour taste before I leave.

Perhaps the athletic department ought to require an essay submission from each student desiring season tickets? Or you could submit your transcript and some letters of recommendation? I mean, honestly - the argument presented here is "I want a ticket, and you didn't have enough for me, so I'm going to throw a hissy fit." As an ISE grad student, you ought to be familiar with the pigeonhole principle - and unfortunately, you had the poor luck of being one of those pigeons without a hole. It happens. . . .either send the university the money to build a bigger venue for it's teams, or else stop complaining.

Kyle, thank you! There are so many other problems out there, the schools budget for one, then to be worrying about a bunch of student tickets. Its all random chance, I have no better chance of winning the state lottery then anyone else and wouldn't call it absurd if I didn't win the lottery even it I played it every round. Thats just how things work some times, suck it up and move on or do something that is going to be constructive to the problem, such as building a bigger venue.
