BARBOUR OFF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ROSTER

Andrea Barbour is no longer a member of the Tech women's basketball team, head coach Beth Dunkenberger announced on Wednesday. Dunkenberger said there would be no further comment on the issue.

As a freshman last season, Barbour played in 26 games, starting 24 of them. However, the guard also missed some time with a shoulder injury -- which she suffered against Boston College -- and a suspension later in the season.

Barbour averaged 15 points and 3.6 rebounds and was named to the ACC All-Freshman team.

Her career-high point output came against the Liberty Flames.

The 5'10" Charlottesville native scored 29 points and pulled down five rebounds in the Hokies' 73-68 win on Nov. 19 at Cassell Coliseum.

Eight days earlier, Barbour began her Hokie career with an 18-point performance in the season opener against High Point, as Tech easily won, 103-64.

RAYS ONE WIN AWAY FROM WORLD SERIES

The Tampa Bay Rays will try to continue their remarkable turnaround season when they play for a trip to the World Series in game five of the American League Championship Series tonight against the Boston Red Sox.

The visiting Rays will send left-hander Scott Kazmir to the hill at Fenway Park to start in what may be the most important game in the franchise's 11-year history.

Tampa Bay currently leads the best-of-seven series, 3-1, against the defending champion Red Sox.

Boston took game one at Tampa's Tropicana Field by a score of 2-0 behind the pitching of Daisuke Matsuzaka -- who will oppose Kazmir tonight.

"Dice-K" shut down the Rays' offense for seven innings, striking out nine.

Tampa won a game two slugfest, 9-8, scoring once in the bottom half of the 11th inning.

The Rays continued their offensive assault in games three and four, blowing out the Red Sox in Boston with scores of 9-1 and 13-4  respectively.

Game five will be broadcast on TBS.  First pitch is scheduled for 8:07 pm.
