With a measly two point difference between Virginia Tech at 153.5, and the Navy Midshipmen at 155.5, the Hokies wrestling team completed its fourth event on their 2008-09 schedule at the Navy Classic this past Saturday in Annapolis.
After going back and forth all day, the Mids took the final lead in the championship bout as top seeded Navy grapplers, Cayle Byers won an 8-3 decision over Tech's D.J. Bruce and Phillip Neese took down the Citadel's Odie Delaney giving Navy the lead they would not lose.
The 2008 freshmen class continued to prove themselves as Jarrod Garnett at 125 pounds, and Jesse Dong at 157 each took their respective titles in their weight class.
Nine other Hokies placed in the 12-team Classic: Brock LiVorio came in behind Garnett (third at 125 pounds), Jared Jones (sixth at 133 pounds), Chris Diaz (second at 141 pounds), Pete Yates (third at 149 pounds), Matt Rosen (fifth at 149 pounds), Matt Epperly (second at 165 pounds), Anthony Trongone (fourth at 174 pounds), Kevin O'Connor (fifth at 184 pounds), Bruce and David Marone (fourth at heavyweight).
The Hokies, who are 1-0 in team competition, will face Chattanooga and Anderson next Sunday
