Tech lacrosse (4-4, 1-1 ACC) is on a hot streak coming off its fourth straight victory, including the program's first ACC win since joining the league in 2005.
Over spring break, the Hokies first hosted the George Washington Colonials (1-7).
Both senior Rachel Culp and sophomore standout Allie Emala led Tech with six and five goals, respectively, in what ultimately was a 20-10 victory at Thompson Field. The Hokies won the opening draw and controlled the game all the way through, which is something they have struggled with in the past. Tech even out-shot the Colonials by a margin of 41-27 on the afternoon.
Next, they traveled south to face the Davidson Wildcats (5-3). With things finally starting to fall into place, the Hokies trounced the 'Cats by a final score of 20-5. Culp, who set a career-high with seven goals, once again led Virginia Tech. Also adding to the goal tally was Emala with four and Ryan Rotanz with three.
It has not only been the Hokie attack that has improved this season, but also the defense. Tech was able to hold the Wildcats to just 13 total shots, versus the Hokies' 45, and senior goalie Kari Morrison was able to hold the opponents scoreless until the 13:48 mark in the second half.
In its third and final game over break, Tech hosted Boston College (5-2). Despite being down 6-1 early, the Hokies fought their way back to defeat the visiting Eagles in overtime, 16-14. Culp, who racked up six goals, netted the eventual game-winner 30 seconds into the extra session. With just 33 seconds left, Emala finished the scoring and sealed the victory with her goal.
