Upon evaluation, Virginia Tech student Haiyang Zhu was found competent to stand trial.
Zhu, a graduate student, is charged with the first-degree murder of Tech student Xin Yang, who was killed in the Au Bon Pain in the Graduate Life Center on Jan. 21.
According to the Associated Press, Zhu was evaluated in a state mental hospital in Petersburg but has returned to the Montgomery County jail.
Zhu's preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 29.
