The Lantern up for sale

June 16, 2009 | by Zach Crizer, ct news editor

The Lantern, a Blacksburg music venue and bar, is being shopped on Craig's List.

As seen on this page, the owners are asking for $90,000 for the Draper Road location and are seeking a quick transaction.

The venue has been open since July of 2008 and attracted many musical acts.

Some acts have been nationally touring groups such as Railroad Earth and Lotus.

The venue has been closed since May, and currently plans to reopen in August, but the sale may change plans.

In May, the Fever to Sing Arts Advocacy group, headquartered in Blacksburg, sent an open letter to the community asking for donations for the Lantern to help with legal fees associated with "a pending lawsuit."

While the venue closed shortly after, no lawsuits have been filed in Montgomery County against the Lantern or owner Dan Chastain.

Roanoke promotion company Plugged In-tertainment ended its affiliation with the Lantern earlier this year.
