In the NFL, the big news in the offseason for the second consecutive year is whether or not Brett Favre will return to play the next season.  Favre recently had surgery to repair his right shoulder, and has reportedly been throwing in preparation for a comeback. Favre has spoke of a return to the Vikings as the only legitimate option, and an announcement of this could come at any time. The Favre news should pick up even more speed this week.

In the NBA, rumors of LeBron James and the Cavaliers adding Shaquille O'Neal in a trade heated up this week. Although the trade talks are still in the preliminary stages, there will be plenty of talk leading up to the NBA Draft June 25 about the possibility of Shaq moving cross country to play for his third team in 3 seasons. If this move does indeed happen, O'Neal would give Cleveland a big part of what they were missing in their season-ending series against the Magic in the playoffs: an imposing presence in the paint. Dwight Howard dominated much of the Eastern Conference Finals, but with O'Neal in the middle of the Cavs lineup, it gives them a better chance at defending Howard and the other great big men in the conference.

On Tuesday, reports surfaced that Sammy Sosa, the former Chicago Cubs slugger who was the first player to hit 60 home runs in three consecutive seasons, tested positive for steroids. According to the New York Times, Sosa tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug in 2003, in the same testing group that proved Alex Rodriguez guilty of the same thing. Sosa is just another player in a constantly increasing long line of superstars that have been uncovered as steroid users. This story will surely be alive for the coming week, as the debate of whether former greats like Sosa who have used steroids deserve to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

The College World Series continues through the weekend and will wrap up in the middle of next week with the championship series. The six teams remaining on Wednesday were Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, Arizona State, LSU, and Texas. The championship series is a best-of-three format, and is June 22, 23, and 24. All games are at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
