Weaver completes US Open

June 19, 2009 | by Zach Crizer, ct news editor

Former Hokie star Drew Weaver finished tied for 40th Monday at Bethpage Black

After making his first cut in a major tournament, Weaver finished his tournament Monday at nine over par. Weaver's final round saw him shoot a four over par 74, identical to his third round score.

Weaver led the tournament at one point on Friday, before falling back into the pack on Saturday. He was one of only three amateurs to make the cut, and finished second among them, trailing Canada's Nick Taylor by only one stroke.

Longtime professional Lucas Glover, a North Carolina native with one previous PGA Tour win, won the tournament with a final score of four under par. He held off late rallies by Phil Mickelson and David Duval after taking the lead from Ricky Barnes early on Monday.

This is Weaver's third major tournament. After winning the British Amateur in 2007, Weaver played the 2007 British Open and 2008 Masters.
