For many new students, the first time they see Virginia Tech is when they visit for orientation.
Few dining halls are open, the student population is a fraction of its size in the school year, and athletics have come to a halt. There's only so much you can experience in these 48 hours of orientation before you officially make Tech your home in August.
We want to give you more.
The Collegiate Times, Tech's student newspaper, provides an orientation guide for the newest members of the Hokie family called Tech Fundamentals. Inside are articles and guides about everything from parking to football games to dining halls. The Collegiate Times staff tried to give you as much useful and student-guided information as possible, including tips from current students and faculty.
Students and family members can grab a copy of Tech Fundamentals on campus during orientation, or view a PDF copy of the guide online. All stories are also posted individually here.
So as you get settled in your dorm room, buy your first West End smoothie, and confuse Newman Library and Newman Hall, keep your Tech Fundamentals guide close during your first few weeks in Blacksburg.
