Iranian students at Virginia Tech will hold a protest Tuesday against election fraud and in support of victims of recent violence in Iran.
At noon, protesters gather at Burruss Hall for two hours. The candlelight vigil was canceled.
"It is a protest in support of the Iranian freedom movement," said one organizer of the protest, who wished to stay anonymous.
Iranians are in a dispute over the June 12, 2009 presidential election, where the results declared incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the winner of the election. All candidates besides Ahmadinejad rejected the results and believed that the election was rigged to give Ahmadinejad a victory. Street protests around Iran have resulted in violence, with dozens killed.
"Everything is changing day to day in Iran," the organizer said. "This protest is a way we can support the democratic movement in Iran and stand with people of Iran."
There are 50 Iranians expected present, as well as any student interested in joining the protest.
