Located on the corner of Main Street and College Avenue, manager Meisha Evans claims that many are attracted to Sharkey’s because of its position downtown.

“It’s a central location,” she said.

The expression “happy hour” is not just one single hour at Sharkey’s; rather it begins at 5 p.m. and lasts until 9 p.m. Members of the staff feel that the reduced drink specials are a large part of why happy hour is so popular.

“It is the best deal in town,” manager Ryann Fowler said. “The biggest ones are rail doubles for $2. That and the drink of the day are probably, as far as liquor drinks, the biggest by far.”

The drink of the day changes daily and costs $3 for a 16-ounce single and $4 for a 22-ounce double. Daily special drinks range from concoctions such as the “Blue Motorcycle” to a house specialty known as “Shark Juice.”

“If you like rum, it’s the ticket,” Fowler said of Shark Juice.

The inexpensive drink specials are especially enticing to college students who tend to savor every penny.

“Two-dollar doubles, whiskey and ginger,” said Kyle Rixey, senior markeing management major. “Can’t beat that.”

Another popular item at Sharkey’s is the $4 domestic pitcher of beer, Fowler said. According to Sharkey’s menu, during happy hour every bottled beer is $1, except Pabst Blue Ribbon.

“Honestly, I know a couple places have pretty close to the same happy hours we do,” Fowler said. “But I think what sets us apart is our staff, you know, how we treat people.”

Fowler attributes the fun atmosphere in large part to customers.

“We have a lot of fun with the people that come in,” Fowler said. “From our side, when we are working, you know, we are going to make you have fun. From your side, you’re going to have fun when you see everyone that you know down here.”
