TOPICS: nidal malik hasan crime shooting

The Virginia Tech graduate accused of killing 13 people in a shooting last week at Fort Hood, Texas has now been formally charged.

Military prosecutors filed 13 charges of premeditated murder against Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan for the shooting deaths at Fort Hood.

Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty for his case.

The charges for murder were announced during a news conference in Fort Hood Thursday afternoon.

Hasan is still at Brooke Army Medical Center on Thursday recovering from gunshot wounds he suffered when he was shot by police at the scene of the shootings.

A Virginia native, Hasan attended Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke from 1990 to 1992, where he received his associate’s degree in science.

He then enrolled at Tech in 1992. In the spring semester of 1995, he graduated with a degree in biochemistry from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Hasan allegedly fired more than 100 rounds into the Soldier Readiness Processing Center. In addition to the 13 people killed in the attack, 42 were wounded.

You mean to tell me a Psychiatrist manage to fire more than 100 rounds on an army base and is still alive to tell about it? I don't know about that.

On another note, the guy is now paralyzed, and will most likely never walk again. Good, burn in hell

Is it really that important to refer to him as a VT graduate? That was years ago, and has nothing to do with his actions at Fort Hood. I believe it is quite irrelevant, and only adds more fuel to the media's representation of VT.

Agree somewhat | # November 13, 2009 @ 12:06 PM — Flag Comment

I agree somewhat it is irrelevant.

However if the attention causes people to think about again with new information, maybe good will come from it.

Nothing is irrelevant in the world today until this madness is in check and these incidents cease to occur.

The only they we can count on in life is change.

I'll tell you what's crazy. Incidents like this always happen and people say "Oh no, there were tons of warning signs, we just missed them". Yea, starting with the most obvious one: HE'S A MUSLIM! I'm sure people will say that's not the right way to look at this, but seriously how many incidents is it going to take before people realize there's just something wrong with them, and they have no place being anywhere near anyone you care about, let alone in our military. Don't tell me I'm the only one who watches the Asians on the bus closely, in case it becomes necessary to protect my fellow students from them. Evidence is evidence, and certain groups have proven themselves dangerous.

With your arguments the group we should be most concerned about is Caucasian Christians since they have, by far, committted most of the crimes in this country's history.

Yeah those terrible Christians.

What other religious groups are out in the world providing food, medicine, education, without cost or stings attached.

Darn those Christians.

I don't think the sincere Christians are the problem, it's all the humans who believe they are god and have no higher power.......

By numbers yes, but those crimes are usually accompanied by a motive which (however wrong) makes sense. I don't worry about being attacked by random white people around campus, I haven't done anything to them. Muslims just hate all Americans, however deeply they hide that feeling. Asians are just crazy, and can't handle the environment here at Tech for some reason. Constant vigilance.

So, before there were Americans (when this continent was just colonies), who did the Muslims hate? The Native Americans or the Europeans? Just trying to figure out if you are linking the hate to a geographical boundary or ethnicity.

If an American converts from christianity to islam (by believeing in the same God albeit in a different way), when does he/she start hating his countrymen? Does the hate stop right away by converting to some other religion like buddhism?

Can biracial Asians (like Asian-Caucasian) handle the environment at the Blacksburg main campus, or do they have to go to one of the satellite campi? Is it the southwestern Virginia part or the Tech-part? What about Asians at other 'Techs' like Georgia Tech or Texas Tech?

The Muslims have always hated people whose culture is different than theirs or who disapprove the ways in which they rule and subjugate people, especially women. While not all Muslims would act on this hatred and become terrorists, I think to say that most Muslims dislike the US is very believable, and maybe even most hate us.

As to the Asian question, I really have no explanation for that, I know a lot of awesome Asian people. But the problem is, for some reason there have been several incidents on campus involving them. I was more using them as an illustration of people who have done things to lose trust around campus, just as Muslim acts of terrorism make it hard for most people to believe they are a "religion of peace".

I don't get why the mil worries about being pc. There is nothing pc about waging war...all arabs should be sent to interment camp like the japs were during the second world war. Why don't we fight wars to win? If we are not going to fight to win then we should do nothing.

Over the past several years, computer science experts have become something of a digital detective. Site Photoshopped Image Killer has developed computer algorithms that can tease out the tiny flaws hidden in phony photos. Though there's no way to push a button and tell if a photo is real, there are tests run automatcally there to allow you to be pretty sure if it's a fake.
