Water main break postpones men's basketball game to 7 p.m.

According to the Virginia Tech Athletics Department, today's men's basketball game against Maryland has been postponed until 7:00 p.m due to a water main break.

Game time was initially pushed back when a van carrying beer for a pre-game party backed up over a fire hydrant, according to the Baltimore Sun.

The accident, which occurred around 1:30 p.m., ruptured the water main for Cassell Coliseum and workmen began digging to repair the main immediately afterwards.

The game was originally scheduled for 4:00 p.m. but was then postponed until 6:30 p.m. due to the break. Tech Associate Director of Athletics Communications Bill Dyer later confirmed that tip-off is now set for 7:00 p.m.

The Hokies enter Saturday's game with a 21-6 overall record and an 8-5 record in Atlantic Coast Conference play.

While the Hokies have lost their past two games, Maryland comes to Blacksburg on a four-game winning streak. The Terrapins are 20-7 overall and 10-3 in ACC play.

This will be the first time the two teams have met this season.
