TOPICS: seth greenberg basketball national invitational tournament

First, I would like to thank all of you for your support this season. The atmosphere in the Cassell has been second-to-none in all of college basketball. Although disappointed that we were not invited to the

NCAA Tournament, we are still playing. And when I say “we,” that includes you!

When I look at this year’s NIT field, it includes two teams that have combined to win four of the last 11 national championships. Two other teams in the NIT have made it to the championship game of the

NCAA Tournament in recent years. This is an outstanding field.

Despite being disappointed, this is a challenge for everyone who is committed to Virginia Tech basketball. I told our players, if we are who I think we are, we will come out and show the nation what Virginia Tech basketball is all about. Part of that includes the atmosphere in Cassell Coliseum.

As a No. 1 seed, we have an opportunity to play three home games. The first is Wednesday. This program is built on absolutes and we clearly define how we win. Our absolutes include passion, energy, commitment, toughness and a competitive spirit. And one of the reasons we win is because of you. The best fans in the ACC!

We need to get past the disappointment and move forward. I talked with coach Bob Knight last night and he told me to tell our players to go out, each and every night, on a mission to let all college basketball fans know just how good we are. And that includes you.

Let’s show the nation what your ownership is all about. As we started the season we were in together and we will stay together. We need you now more than ever. Our players feed off of your energy and passion. Let’s do this thing together. Let’s work toward winning a national championship and cutting down the nets in New York.

We will also hold another of our Chalk Talks on Tuesday at noon in D2. Come be a part of this fun and informational time that allows students great insight into our program.

Thank you and Go Hokies!

Seth Greenberg
Men's basketball head coach

Seth-
Instead of trying to prove it at the end of the season, maybe you should schedule a couple qualty games at the beginning of the season. THEN, if we win, we won't have a laughable, UGLY, non-con. This is YOUR fault!! You dont play anyone.

Coach SG,

We will be out there in full strength. We are confident of the mental toughness and courage of our team. We expect our team to go out there and get the NIT ring.

For the disgruntled youngsters in the crowd you need to look back in history prior to Seth's arrival...Stokes , Hussey , Foster , Allen...one NCAA invite in 20 years. Seth has this program poised to do great things...NIT three straight years means close to the NCAA's three straight years. Get on the bus and support this team , your coach and your school !!!

Ryan, you should get your facts straight before sounding off. We had no control over teams like Penn State and Georgia having down years or drawing Iowa in the Big Ten/ACC challenge. This program is in the best place it's been since the 80's when I was a student.

Coach Greenberg, we're behind you and the team all the way and bring home the NIT title. Thanks for a great and exciting season

I like Coach Greenberg but I think it might be time for him to head to St Johns. Not making the NCAA tourny with Malcolm Delaney is a failure. And don't get me started on passing on Stephen Curry. I mean WTF? Too small for VT, but not too small for the NBA. Rookie of the Year anybody?

Energy and enthusiasm only go so far. Winning clutch games in the home stretch and making smart recruiting decisions are absolutely fundamental to building a consistent winning program. I'm just not seeing it.

If it was such a good idea to recruit Stephen Curry out of high school then why didn't Roy Williams or Mike Krzyzewski even give him a look. If you knew the facts you would know that Seth did want him to come here but didn't have the scholarships available. If not making the tourney with Malcolm is a failure, then what is UNC going 16-16 with a bench full of McDonalds All-Americans?

The Hokies could not have a better coach than Coach Greenberg. Come out and support the team tomorrow night. GO HOKIES!

Forest for the Trees: If you're a student, PLEASE transfer. If you're a UVA fan, please don't comment on our student paper's site. If you're just plain stupid, keep your uninformed comments to yourself. Seth Greenberg is the best thing that's happened to VT basketball...PERIOD.

Tech and Greenberg is just one player short of being in the top tier of the ACC. They play hard and aggressive but they need that one stud player that can push us over the top. Could it be Allen? Well if could stay in a game longer than 3 minutes maybe but all in all Greenberg has the VT program headed in the right direction.
