What an unbelievable atmosphere Monday night in the Cassell. What a great reflection on our University, student body and community.

Whenever I get an opportunity to speak to groups and organizations, I always talk about everyone being on the same page. We are one! The environment in the Cassell was a great example of a united effort of everyone pulling in the same direction and what can be accomplished. The energy, the ownership and the passion created one of the best atmospheres thus far in post-season basketball.

Our challenge after the Quinnipiac game was to take it to another level. And you answered. But now the stakes are higher. We are 40 minutes away from being able to compete for a national championship.

This has been a magical season with special moments, but none more memorable than Monday night. Now we have a new challenge, the University of Rhode Island. An extremely talented, athletic, hard-playing group. One of the great things about the NIT is that if you earn a number-one seed, you get to play on your home court. The Cassell is a special place; some people say that it’s magical. I have always believed that people create magic and together, magical things can happen.

I am asking you to join us and together, continue this journey. Once again, we will have general admission seating. Arrive early and get the best seats in the house. We all need to bring our “A” game. With the quick 48-hour turnaround, we all need to come and compete each and every play.

I told our players last week the game honors toughness. Let’s honor the Cassell with one of the toughest, most energetic crowds that we have ever had.

We will have our Chalk Talk at D2 at noon on Wednesday. I look forward to seeing you there.

It’s a great day to be a Hokie!
