Virginia Tech men’s basketball coach Seth Greenberg agreed to terms for the remaining four years of his contract and added another two years to his current contract Friday, according to a statement released by the Athletics Department.
The news silences recent speculation that coach Greenberg may speak with St. John’s University regarding its head coaching position.
"I am pleased that Coach Greenberg will continue his mission at Virginia Tech and will lead the Hokies for the next six seasons," Weaver said in the statement.
"He has done an outstanding job in creating a program and environment that has the Hokies competitive year in and year out in the ACC. Under Coach Greenberg's tutelage, the Hokies have the fourth-best regular season record in the ACC and he has created one of the best programs in the country."
Greenberg has a 132-94 overall record with Tech, making five postseason appearances as the Hokies' head coach.
His "Chalk Talk's" at D2 in the Dietrick Dining Center and his passion on the court have made him a Tech fan favorite.
"I am excited to be afforded the opportunity to continue to build the basketball program at Virginia Tech," Greenberg said.
"What makes Virginia Tech so special is the people and their passion for the University. My family has embraced all that the University stands for and I feel this is where I belong."
Greenberg continues the building process next season with five returning starters.
The Hokies compiled a 25-9 overall record and a 10-6 record in Atlantic Coast Conference play this season, falling just short of an appearance in Madison Square Garden with a loss to Connecticut in the third round of the National Invitation Tournament Wednesday.
Terms of the contract will be released within the next 10 days to two weeks, when all aspects of the contract are finalized and signed.

Good to see but you'd have to be foolish to believe Greenberg was gonna leave us for St. John's.

great news, Seth has done a phenomenal job at Virginia Tech. In 7 years, he has taken the Hokie basketball team from an unknown, bottom feeder in Big East to a top team in the ACC. I remember when I was at Tech, before Seth was there, we beat UVA one time and we stormed the court, lol. Now, beating UVA is a regularity. Looking forward to a great year next year with all starters back and a strong recruiting class. Go Hokies!
