The numbers are in — and the outlook is far from optimistic. Each year Virginia Tech’s Career Services releases its Post-Graduation Report. Compiled through surveys with graduated students, the report tracks employment rates along with a variety of other metrics. The 2008-09 report, released in January, showed that graduate employment was down from the previous year, with less than 50 percent of respondents saying they had found work or received a job offer.
The report also showed students are tapping into previous work experiences to find employment after college more than the previous two years’ reports. Students that found work reported receiving bonuses of $3,500, up from a median of $3,000 in the 2007-08 report. The following are select statistics from the new report. A link for graduating students to take the survey along with the full report can be found on Tech’s Career Services Web site at Career.vt.edu.
