The Virginia State Police are seeking a suspect in connection with the murder of Morgan Harrington.
The suspect, announced Thursday, July 1, was identified in connection with the case through “a forensic connection,” according to a press release from the state police.
Harrington, 20, was a student at Virginia Tech. She disappeared from a Metallica concert at the John Paul Jones arena in Charlottesville on Oct. 17, 2009. After a four-month search, her body was discovered on Anchorage Farm, about 10 minutes from the University of Virginia in Albemarle County.
Forensic evidence found during the investigation has linked Harrington’s case with an unsolved 2005 abduction and sexual assault in Northern Virginia.
In 2005, a woman was abducted and sexually assaulted in the city of Fairfax. A composite sketch of the assaulter was established after the assault. However, police said the suspect may have changed his appearance in the past five years.
The Virginia State Police, UVa Police, Albemarle County Police and the Charlottesville Police are working with the Fairfax Police in regards to both criminal incidents.
Those with information about the man featured in the attached “Wanted Poster” may contact City of Fairfax Police Detective Mike Boone at 703-385-7959. Anyone wishing to provide information in the Harrington case is encouraged to call the Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers at 434-977-4000 or Virginia State Police at 434-352-3467, or e-mail State Police at bci-appomattox@vsp.virginia.gov. A reward of $150,041 is still available for anyone with information that leads to a resolution of the Harrington crime.

I'm so glad they look to be closing in on the perpetrator in this case. College student (and everyone for that matter) seem to be more and more the targets of these predators. What these criminals need to realize is that - shortly - EVERYONE will have proactive methods of handling their own security.
In fact, I just bought a new application I found on iTunes (it works on all phones as well) for my wife and college-age daughter. It's called Shadow Me Security (http://www.shadowmesecurity.com). If either of them go missing this system will conference call me and anyone else they indicate as contacts.
This happens IMMEDIATELY when the press a panic button OR if they don't answer their phone for an extended period (set by them).
Take that criminals. Now when you attack somebody you may not know that there are 5 people on a conference call looking at a GPS map of where that person is. It even 'breadcrumbs' GPS position as well.
I wish Morgan had had this type of application. Then we would be hearing about how this criminal is looking at life in prison.
Signed - A concerned father and distant friend

these perps are disgusting! With all the technology available, and Shadow Me Security leads the way, there's no reason that they should be winning the battle. My kids and I have Shadow Me and I feel so much more secure, as well as having peace of mind about my children.
Thanks Shadow Me.....

Concerned Father:
Your initiative is commendable.
To give them and yourself the ultimate in peace of mind, give them the gift of a good firearm (purse sized), have them train with it and then get a CCW permit.
When seconds count, the police are minutes away. And Smith and Wesson can't be failed by AT&Ts lackluster network coverage :-)
