Congressional candidate Morgan Griffith and former Sen. George Allen will visit Blacksburg this weekend as Griffith continues on the campaign trail.

Griffith is the Republican candidate for the 9th Congressional district and is running against an incumbent Democrat, Rep. Rick Boucher.

Griffith has served in the Virginia General Assembly since 1994.

The candidate will speak at the 12th annual Montgomery County Republican Party Obenshain-Dalton Dinner Friday night, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m.

The event will be held at Custom Catering at the intersection of North Main Street and Patrick Henry Drive.

Allen is the keynote speaker for the dinner. State Sen. Mark Obenshain will also speak.

Other local members of the state Republican Party, including Del. Dave Nutter, will also be in attendance.

On Saturday, Griffith plans to tailgate before Virginia Tech’s first home football game of the season against James Madison University.

I'm sitting out this election.
I like that Boucher is supposedly pro-life, pro 2nd Amendment, and I consider him a hero for voting against the PATRIOT Act when everyone else supported it (including Obama and Clinton). However, I don't like that Boucher is for Cap and Trade, for Bush's & Obama's militarism in the Middle East, and for socialized medicine (he voted NO on healthcare because there was no public option).
Griffith, on the other hand, is doing what all the Republicans are doing, and saying that "vote for me because Obama is ruining the country" without taking a stand on ANYTHING. I searched for HOURS and can't find Grifith's position on the wars in the Middle East or civil rights issues at home (PATRIOT Act, police state, etc). This tells me that Griffith also holds the unpopular position of supporting these needless wars, as well as letting Bush/Obama spy on the American people, torture foreign prisoners, and hold people without trial.

Lesser of two evils is still evil. I'm sitting this one out.

Okey, Griffith is definitely no small government guy. He wants Obama to intervene and stop the mosque from being built in New York. This is absurd. What goes on in New York City is NONE of the Fed's business! Read the Bill of Rights Griffith!!! All powers not delegated to the Feds is reserved for the states and the people! The Feds have ZERO AUTHORITY to stop that mosque from being built.
"This has nothing to do with religious freedom, instead it has everything to do with letting the souls of those killed in this tragedy to rest in peace."
Sorry Griffith, but the only way to rest in peace is to trust Jesus as your Savior. I am going to rest in peace when I die, and it will not matter if some Muslims build a mosque on my grave site.

Congressman Boucher actually WEAKENED the legislation by working to PROTECT the coal industry. Being involved in writing the legislation is a lot better than sticking one's head in the sand and ignoring the problem.

You have another option....Jeremiah Heaton.

He has rejected all special interest money, he is a veteran, he is a former school teacher.

Allen is a racist and Griffith is an alien (i.e. doesn't live in the 9th).

Boucher is a moderate and supports SW VA, not his party. Griffith has proven he puts party before district in the House of Delegates.

"Moderates" are the last thing we need. Definition of Moderate: a person who has no principles so he votes to fund the Republican's warfare state abroad, and the Democrat's welfare state at home. Moderates are why we are $11 Trillion in debt. Moderates are not what we need. We need "radicals" who will hold up bills and cause gridlock. Every month the feds dig us deeper into the hole. We need people who are going to wrestle the shovel away from the feds.

That is not the definition of a moderate. Clinton was a moderate, and he balanced the budget. Neither Bush nor Obama are perceived as moderates, and they are mostly responsible for the current debt. Thanks for giving it the college try, Shelly.

Your savior was executed for preaching moderation and tolerance. Radicals bring down governments. You really have no idea what it is like to live in a lawless state.

VT Patriot, I agree. Boucher puts his district first. He's been an excellent representative and has my vote this November.

Really?? I think not! Anyone who votes for cap & trade and lives in "coal country" isn't representing his district. He's been a decent representative but has served long enough. At the end of the day, he's still a Dem and his blood runs blue...that's the problem.

Next time you try to say Boucher supports Southwest Virginia and not his party, try doing your research. Boucher has voted with Pelosi 96.4% of the time. I missed how that means he supports this area and "not his party."

What people need to understand is that Morgan Griffith may be the most incompetent Congressman, if elected. Rick Boucher has done SO MUCH for the 9th district, and he actually listens to his constituents. He has so much pull in Congress (considered the 10th most powerful legislator because of seniority). If Morgan Griffith gets elected, there will be no broadband access in rural areas. Hell, he probably doesn't even know how to use a computer and how technology all works. Morgan Griffith would set the 9th district back....so many years....too many to even comprehend.

That's impressive Brandon. It's amazing how you don't think that Boucher has held the 9th district back. Hmm...let's see here....Rick Boucher has boasted about starting "Showcasing Southwest Virginia" where he has been able to create "5000 good jobs." Well I'm glad he's been in office for 28 years and can boast on creating only 5000 jobs. To say he does a lot for this district is to not look at the facts of what he has done. Granted, he has done some good things, but what Congressman wouldnt? However, Boucher aqcuires millions of dollars every year for pork barrel projects that aren't needed. For example, two years ago he granted Bluefield College with 3 million dollars to build an additional dorm on campus when all the current dorms weren't even full. And the school has not grown in size since this dorm was constructed. And finally, how on earth can you defend a man that helped write and then voted for Cap-and-Trade?? The CBO estimated that the 9th district of VA would be in the top 5 congressional districts in the country for job losses. How's that for "setting this district back?"
