A Virginia Tech graduate has broken the single-day money record on the popular TV game show “Jeopardy!”

Delaware native Roger Craig, who graduated from Tech with a biological sciences degree in 1999, banked $77,000 on Tuesday night’s episode, breaking the record of $75,000 previously set by Ken Jennings.

Jennings took home more than $2.5 million in 2004, appearing on 74 episodes of the show.

Craig is currently working toward his doctorate at the University of Delaware, where he received his master’s diploma.

In his record-breaking win Tuesday, Craig entered Final Jeopardy with $47,000, then wagered $30,000 on the category “Literary and Movie Title Objects.” Craig won by correctly answered the final question, identifying “The Bridge on the River Kwai” as the title object spanning the Mae Khlung River that inspiring a novel and 1957 film.

In his fourth show Thursday, Craig dominated the competition, winning with a final score of $28,400, bringing his four day total to $166,801.

Craig will return for Friday’s episode, which will run on CBS (Blacksburg's WDBJ) at 7:30 p.m.

What an absurdly easy Final Jeopardy question. With all due respect to Mr. Craig's aptitude and intelligence, he is playing a version of the game which is considerably easier in terms of it's trivia than say two decades ago. The dilution of the questions occurred because the American television viewer was turning off the show when they couldn't keep up. As people don't read books any longer, the show is now more softball than hard ball.

Kind of like baseball and football players using steroids or the golfers using much better clubs than Palmer and those guys?

How could the miss the network? The same way a slack copy editor would use the unword "alum" when it should be "alumnus". Stupid is a low bar.
