The Virginia Tech football team extended its winning streak to two games Saturday with an impressive shutout victory against Boston College.
The Hokies blanked the Eagles 19-0 in their first Atlantic Coast Conference matchup of the season, the first shutout for Tech since the 2006 season when the Hokies beat Virginia 17-0, and the first shutout against Boston College since the 1998 season. It was also the Hokies first win in Chestnut Hill since the 2002 season, and Tech increased its winning streak to three games on the Eagles.
The Hokies were backed up on their own goal line to start the game, after a nine-play 63-yard drive engineered by Boston College quarterback Dave Shinskie. However, Tech cornerback Jayron Hosley made a leaping interception to swing momentum in favor of the Hokies. Running back Darren Evans capped off an impressive nine-play, 80-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run to put Tech on top 7-0.
From there on, the Eagles were mired with mistakes and inconsistency on offense. Three Boston College turnovers resulted in 13 of Tech’s 19 points. Adding insult to injury, Shinskie was stopped one-yard short of the goal line after the Eagles elected to go for a touchdown rather than kicking a field goal before halftime as time ticked away and the Eagles squandered yet another opportunity to put points on the board.
Defensive coordinator Bud Foster dialed up pressure all game against Boston College as the Hokies had three sacks as well as a forced fumble and recovery by defensive end Chris Drager. Kicker Chris Hazley also had a career-day. booting in four field goals for Tech including a 45-yarder in the third quarter to put the Hokies up 13-0.
Two more field goals sealed the victory for Tech as the Hokies have won their last two games after starting the season 0-2 despite high preseason expectations. Running backs David Wilson and Evans filled in for Ryan Williams who missed the game with a hamstring injury suffered against East Carolina last week. Wilson and Evans had a tough day running against the Eagles’ stout linebacker corps of Luke Kuechly, Kevin Pierre-Louis, and Mark Herzlich. The three starters were Boston College’s leading tacklers and tallied a total of 34 tackles between them.
Up next Tech will battle undefeated North Carolina State in Raleigh, N.C. for their second-straight ACC contest. Game time and televising information has yet to be determined.

Another poor offense performance. Beamer once comments that to be a national championship team, we have to be equally good at both ends. Now the defense is back, where is the offense? I am just outrageous about the offensive coach who is obviously so ineptitude for his job but has kept his job for so long.
Beamer challenged the fans to go to his office and compete with Bryan Stinespring. What a joke! He is paid lot of money to do that, not the fans. How about challenge any offensive coordinator in the nation to compete with him. With the same amount of money, there are tons of better candidates. The administration need to think harder what is better for this program.

Seems like we're doomed to either a good offense or defense on any given day, not both.
