Supreme Court rejects Morva's appeal

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected an appeal made by convicted murderer William Morva.

Morva, a Blacksburg resident was convicted of three counts of capital murder by the Washington County Circuit Court in 2008. He was sentenced to the death penalty for each murder.  

While escaping from Montgomery Regional Hospital in August 2006, Morva shot and killed security guard, Derrick McFarland. The following day, Morva shot Cpl. Eric Sutphin, while he search for him on the Huckleberry Trail.

Morva was convicted of three counts of capital murder for committing a capital offense, killing more than one person within three years.

“This is evidence of justice being done in our courts,” Montgomery County Sheriff Tommy Whitt said in a statement.

Morva should be in the execution chamber at Greensville by mid to late 2012, based on how other prior cases have proceeded.

Morva became a troubled young man in the criminal justice system and it is that system that will now execute him.
