The Town of Blacksburg will be paving North Main Street today, resulting in lane closures.
Today from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m., North Main Street will be limited to one lane from College Avenue to Alumni Mall. Faculty Street will also be closed. From 12 a.m. to 7 p.m., Turner Street will be closed between North Main Street and Progress Street.
As a result of the lane and road closures, the Blacksburg Transit will be redirected. Harding Avenue, Main Street and Two Town Trolley routes will operate on a detour schedule all day. The Main Street and Harding Avenue timechecks will occur at Torgersen Hall. The Two Town Trolley timecheck will be at Eggleston Hall.

This pointless construction really really sucks! Now I just use 460 and add 5 miles if I need to get somewhere in south blacksburg. Trust me it's faster.. I timed it.

Well, on the plus side, at least the Exxon has better pedestrian access. Oh wait...

And when it's complete, along with the new performing arts center
you will be the lucky recipients of a beautiful, thriving community that
has not only added the pleasure of enjoying downtown but will add
additional businesses to support the tourists, visitors and residents alike.
Your biggest problems - aside from cowardly posting as Anonymous - is
it seems you need to park your car, take the bus, ride your bike OR WALK
and take advantage of what we have to offer. This past weekend included
two lunches, two dinners, Farmer's Market, Indigo Girls, after drinks at River
Mill, shopping at 310 Rosemont, and staying at Main Street Inn - my car
was parked the ENTIRE TIME at Kent Square Garage. The construction has
not been an issue for me. :)

Well person who also posted anonymously, no one cares that you get along fine by walking. That is not a practical solution for the majority of Blacksburg residents. If you have all day to wait then yes you could use the BT but if you have places to be like a majority of people than the BT, which is slow and overcrowded, is not a good solution. You should show empathy for your neighbors rather than brag about how their problems don't affect you.

Actually, the hypocrisy is even worse than you suspect. After all, we all know that Larry David is Anonymous. On the other hand, nobody knows who the heck Love NRV is.

First, learn how to construct a proper sentence before you start attacking commenters. I bike, EVERYWHERE in Blacksburg and have had some remarkably close calls on Main recently with the narrowing of the roads. I still do not completely understand the purpose and benefits associated with the installation of the traffic circle as I feel that could easily contribute to more congestion. At least Chipotle is getting a fair amount of business on the other side.
Cheers!

it's not just the traffic circle (which may be a good idea) but the entire widening of the sidewalks that were fine to begin with. I had NO trouble walking downtown as I did so often before this construction.
I can deal with construction but the most frustrating part is that it will take TWO years! That's very slow.
Also to Love NRV, why do we need a performing arts center in the small town of Blacksburg, do the majority of tourists/residents/students really care? Tech isn't an art school by default. Maybe if we had some sort of Engineering/agricultural/architecture museum of some sort. That would be neat. Whatever, the construction for that isn't an issue as much as the "widening of sidewalks" that is causing all this mess.
Who the heck comes up with these ideas, it sure isn't the students.

Maybe because most of those places you visited are just slightly beyond the construction mess AND the majority of us don't leave our cars in that now overly expensive(100% raised rates) parking garage on kent st for the weekend. The buses are great on the weekends except you have to plan in advance because they only run every 30 minutes. A car is nice in that you can just get in it and go wherever. The problem in this town is parking it and now the new construction.
It's nice if you live south of the construction but most students live north of it and have to go through it to get anywhere in town on the weekends.
Also if anonymous is "cowardly" then "Love NRV" is just as anonymous since I'm sure no one around here has "Love NRV" on their birth certificate.
