Virginia Tech Police Department announced Thursday it is investigating a potential sexual assault that occured before Tech’s Nov. 4 home football game versus Georgia Tech.

In a release sent out to students, Tech police said it had received a report around 7:45 p.m., on Nov. 4 regarding two people engaged in sexual activity in a women’s bathroom in the Dietrick dining hall.

Officers responded to the report, and made an arrest of a male suspect for being drunk in public. Following several interviews regarding the incident, investigators believed a sexual assault may have occurred.

Comparing the report to a daily crime and fire log sent out Nov. 5 by Tech Police, Collegiate Times has identified the individual arrested for being drunk in public at the D2 dining hall as Stacy Cressel of Marion, Va. Calls to Tech Police confirming the identity were not returned.

An investigation into the events of Nov. 4 is ongoing. Those with information about the case are encouraged to call VTPD at 540-231-6411.
