It is that time of the year again, so pull out your maroon and orange attire and pack your grill: It’s Hokie Football season.

Even as freshman at Virginia Tech, it is never too soon to start supporting your athletic programs. As a freshman, football season tickets are unavailable, but this does not mean that you won’t be able to attend the game.

It does mean, though, that you might need to get a little crafty in order to find yourselves front and center in Lane Stadium.

The most viable option for getting tickets as a freshman is through the football lottery system.

This system allows students to go to hokietickets.com and enter the lottery process by submitting their student PID and password to verify that they are a student at Virginia Tech.

The lottery opens two weeks before a game and closes after the cut-off date mentioned on the sign-up page. After the cut-off date closes, the lottery will be run and individual students will be selected to receive a ticket.

These students will receive an email notifying you of your success, and will give you information on where to pick up your tickets. The email includes a link to a print-out of your ticket that you can bring to Cassel Coliseum to pick up your real ticket. Even though you won your ticket individually, you can group together with friends who won the lottery as well and can get your tickets together by bringing them to Cassel at the same time.

However, the largest amount of tickets that you can bring at one time is 30. You typically have a few days to pick up your ticket, and in case of unredeemed tickets, a second and third lottery will be conducted until all tickets are claimed.

Another option is to buy tickets off of online vendors, such as StubHub.com.

StubHub allows for the purchase of any Virginia Tech football game from a wide range of prices and seating options.  By constantly checking these websites, you can see the change in prices and may be able to find a great deal from people trying to sell their tickets cheap and fast.

StubHub makes getting the tickets easy through either quick downloads or overnight shipping.

Craigslist.com is also a good place to find cheap tickets. Go to Craigslist and search under New River Valley and then search Blacksburg.

Under “for sale” is a link for “tickets” where you can search Virginia Tech football and many posts will pop up with tickets to a variety of games. The people posting are also living in the area, so the transfer of money and tickets would not be difficult to work out.
