Based on comments made from my friends and their outlooks on men, many girls, including myself, have come to the conclusion that chivalry is dead. Or is it?

Let’s be honest: There’s always the possibility that we expect too much from the
opposite sex when they take us on dates, but the majority of us would most likely deny this. What is the real issue at hand? Without a doubt, it’s money.

Yes, generally being polite is something we naturally expect, and should be lived up
to when trying to impress a girl or guy. However, when it comes to dating, expecting a date to pay for us so often — and for some unknown reason, women do expect this — creates unnecessary pressure.

Cheap dates are often preferable whether you’re a freshman or a professor, and the Lyric Theatre is a great place to go to with a significant other, without having to spend a fortune.

There’s always that awkward point of the night when you wonder if you’re going to have to break out the wallet or if your date will willingly decide to be generous. This problem could be easily avoided by attending a movie at the Lyric.

With the classy presence and ambiance the Lyric brings to Blacksburg, it’ll at least create the illusion that you’re trying make an effort.

Although movie theaters don’t make for a unique experience, this one offers more than just film. The theater’s atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and its friendly staff members are mainly local volunteers.

With its movie tickets being cheaper than those at mainstream cinemas and live events occurring frequently, this homey theater provides local couples with something new.

“Dinner and a movie” dates can be cliche and overpriced. But this small town theater makes it worth the time and money, with ticket prices ranging from $4 to $6 per person, depending on the day of the week.

The Lyric plays recent movies later than traditional movie theaters do, but the few dollars that can be saved become a redeeming factor. As a broke college student, I’d say a $4 ticket is more than enough to atone for a one or two week wait to see a movie.

If you really want to be a cheap date, go to the Lyric on Mondays, when attendees get free popcorn all day. There’s nothing like an inexpensive movie and free food.

The Lyric is the best place in Blacksburg for a rendezvous to woo and win over your sweetheart.
