Virginia Tech got their third ACC win of the season off the fingertips of freshman Dorian Finney-Smith, taking down the Boston College Eagles on Sunday night, 66-65.

Finney-Smith led the team with 17 points and eight rebounds. Seven of those rebounds came on the offensive end, including the final tip-in for the go-ahead score off a Robert Brown missed shot with only 2.4 seconds left on the clock.

After shooting 0 for 25 from the field over a five-game stretch, the freshman has shot above sixty percent the past three games.

“I’m real confident. I have been having a tough month, tough couple games, but Coach and my teammates kept telling me to grind it out,” Finney-Smith said. “My teammates were saying, 'Keep going to the offensive boards.' We had a lot of close games, and it felt good to really pull out one.”

Dorenzo Hudson returned to the starting lineup after coming off the bench for the past seven games. Freshman C.J. Barksdale also made an appearance as a starter, the first of his career.

Erick Green struggled, shooting just 4-11 from the field, but continued his streak of consecutive games with double-digit points to twenty-six, scoring ten points on the night.

The Hokies had a sloppy first half, committing six turnovers which the Eagles turned into 13 easy points. However, Tech turned it around in the second half, turning the ball over just twice for five points.

Victor Davila had 10 points for the game, eight of them coming in the first half, as he shot a perfect 4-4 from the field; this including a dunk of fa missed jumper by Green to end the half with BC leading 29-27.

Tech started the second half strong, taking the lead for the first time since their opening possession after a Robert Brown three followed up by a tip-in by Finney-Smith on the next possession.

On the next Hokie possession, Barksdale tweaked his ankle while going for a rebound, limped off the court and went into the locker room.

With eight minutes left in the game, Tech found themselves down six when Hudson took over, scoring nine of the next eleven points to bring the Hokies within one with four minutes to go.
