The “Cardiac Hokies” will be back at it tonight, as we take on our in-state rivals from Charlottesville, Va.  In the last two weeks, we have seen the “Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat.” For sure, we enjoy the former much more than the latter. This past weekend’s thrilling overtime victory against Georgia Tech was a team win. When I say team, I mean players and the Hokie Nation.

Nothing is easy for this young basketball team. But, when we are all together — competing with the support of the Hokie Nation — special things can happen. I can’t be more proud of a team that, just 42 hours after a gut-wrenching loss at Florida State, turned around and played an overtime game, finding a way to win. A lesser group would not have been able to rebound from such a devastating loss. Our players truly do represent what the Hokie Spirit is all about.

The game this evening is a revenge game for our rivals from Charlottesville. More importantly, it gives us an opportunity for a sweep in the season series. Once again, this game will be televised nationally on the ESPN family of networks and will be our 13th game on national TV this season. Part of building a program is creating an identity, and you are part of that identity. We need great ownership, great energy and great spirit as we play our fifth game in 12 days.

Through all the disappointments, frustrations and adversity, this team continues to fight. We have won our past three home games, and we are counting on you to help us as we continue building on that Cassell magic.

I apologize for missing ChalkTalk last week, due to a recruiting commitment, but I will be back on Tuesday at D2 at 12:15 p.m. to present our game plan for our game against Virginia.

-Seth Greenberg, men's basketball head coach
