Not to be confused with the neglected red-headed stepchild you knew growing up, the Ginger Shandy is a refreshing mix of two different beers combined with lemon slices — a drink that is sure to make your next cookout memorable.
Hoegaarden is an original Belgian white beer, and although it has a reputation of not traveling well, it still maintains a light, refreshing taste in the United States. Ginger beer, on the other hand, initially goes down smoothly, but has a slight kick afterward — leaving a slight burning sensation in your throat.
The ginger beer already has traces of citrus, but the added lemon slices make for a stronger flavor that perfectly accentuates the mixture.
3 bottles of chilled Hoegaarden beer
1 bottle of chilled ginger beer
1 thinly sliced lemon
1. In a pitcher, combine the two types of beer.
2. Gradually stir in the lemon slices.
3. Fill glasses of your choice with ice. Pour the pitcher’s contents into glasses, and enjoy.
