Posted by: Jason T at Aug 10 Yes, but anon, since the administration obviously cares so much about prohibiting firearms on campus, whenever one is discovered it should qualify as a de facto safety concern and should be reported. Flag Abuse
Posted by: Anon.. at Aug 8 The employee worked at Cassell, but wasn't a security officer. The employee died a few days later after being taken off life support. I don't think anything has actually been released by Tech and maybe won't. It apparently wasn't an issue that would affect the student body, in a safety concern. I received the email, yet I am a staff member, not a student. I knew this person are put 2 and 2 together after talking to people close to this person. My thoughts and condolensces go out to the family. RIP... Flag Abuse

Posted by: Fred at Aug 6 Does this mean the employee is going to be released from his position for violating the campus gun ban? After all, Tech enjoys safety through being a gun-free campus. Or, if this fellow has tenure, is this washed under the bridge? Flag Abuse
Posted by: Anonymous at Aug 5 No, doubt it will be released. Will it? I mean if I tried to commit suicide and failed I wouldn't want it plastered all over the papers. Flag Abuse

Posted by: Jason at Aug 5 To be fair, Cho committed suicide after he killed 32 other people and injured countless others. This person was obviously not going to do that by the time that the email was sent. As for Charles Steger "sucking," maybe you've swallowed every ounce of drivel that the mainstream media has spewed since April 16th, but many of us are still able to put things in perspective and know that nothing of the kind is true. Posted by: Anonymous at Aug 5 A person committing suicide doesn't pose a threat? Umm, do you remember what Cho did? I agree that some of these comments are tasteless, but an email making everyone aware of the situation definitely should have been sent. Everyone can sing the Charles Steger song for as long as they want, but open your eyes: he sucked before 4/16 and he sucks after it. Flag Abuse

Posted by: Anonymous at Aug 4 I do know the family, and I am with anyone who says we should be in support. Not everything is about 4-16, and some things, even ones involving a gun, are private. Flag Abuse
Posted by: Anonymous at Aug 4 a person committing suicide doesn't pose a threat to any of you so why are you all up in arms about this. information about suicides/attempted suicides normally isn't given out. mind your own business and pray for the family Flag Abuse
Posted by: debster at Aug 4 We call this Failure of Leadership. Guess what you True Hokies - the admin only cares about fund-raisers and grants. A la 4-16-07, VT doesn't care about your safety. But if gross incompetence (VT massacre) can bring in 100s of million$ (for the admin, not the victims), what could be better. Charlie and Larry are such sorry "victims." Flag Abuse

Posted by: Jason T at Aug 3 While I will reserve any hasty judgments about the situation until more information is available, certainly we can ascertain that he/she must be a security officer of some kind, since we all know that they're the only ones that have guns on campus. We can be certain of this because of the strictly enforced anti-firearm policy on campus. Flag Abuse

Posted by: Chris at Aug 2 This is a completely different situation than we were in on April 16th. It would be better of us to offer support to the family as opposed to making incompetent comments about e-mails and things we no nothing about. Let's be true Hokies and not rush to judgement.
