"The year"?
I've seen this kind of manic enthusiasm countless times in the past with Washington fans, and I do know one thing.
Someone's got to hose 'em down.
The rest of the NFL fandoms -- including Giants, Cowboys, and Eagles alike -- share this all too familiar feeling.
The Redskins have a pretty good team, but far from jinx-proof, especially against one of the power Melanie just cast.
Don't get me wrong -- excitement is good -- but I see the same trend every time the Redskins start to put a decent streak together. It could well be this case in a number of other regions that house an NFL team, but Northern Virginia's the one I've lived in for most of my life as a fan of Big Blue. Alas, I was displaced from my New York Giants-friendly habitat as a youth.
Over the years I've seen even preseason wins invigorate Washington area news teams to jump in the van and broadcast live from bars in Vienna, Va., and other D.C. suburbs -- as their not-so-sober sources tell them why you can pencil the "'Skins in for the Super Bowl!!!"
But I guess my hat goes off to a franchise that drives its fan base so rabid with excitement, so quickly.
