'Noles, Cavs can grab hold of division leads

MIAMI (FLA) VS. VIRGINIA, NOON

This is a chance for the Virginia Cavaliers to cement the revelation that they're for real. With losses to Duke and Connecticut, the Cavaliers auditioned for the role of bottom feeders in the ACC.  Thanks to the play of quarterback Marc Verica and running back Cedric Peerman and sparked by victories over conference foes North Carolina and Georgia Tech, a win over the 'Canes on Saturday could spark an ACC Championship run. Miami, however, must win in order to keep alive any reasonable hopes of taking the conference. The Hurricanes have won three games in a row, including their most recent victory over the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest.

NO. 15 FLORIDA STATE VS. GEORGIA TECH, 3:30 P.M.

Florida State sits atop the Atlantic Division and seems to be a frontrunner for the conference crown. A win over Georgia Tech would be another step down the road which ends at No. 8 Florida. The Seminoles can only hope to be 10-1 when they welcome the No. 8 Florida Gators into Tallahassee. Could an upset on Nov. 29 and an ACC Championship spell a Bowl Championship Series bid for Florida State? Georgia Tech's only two losses were delivered via the commonwealth, going 6-0 against teams outside the state of Virginia. They certainly hope to continue the trend and put smiles on the faces of every other ACC school.

CLEMSON VS. BOSTON COLLEGE, 3:30 P.M.

The preseason ACC favorites travel to Beantown in attempt to halt a three-game losing skid. After booting former head coach Tommy Bowden and falling to Georgia Tech, the Tigers, who expect to have running back C.J. Spiller back in the lineup, are hanging by a thread in the conference picture and are one win away from bowl eligibility. Two weeks ago, the Boston College Eagles came back to beat Virginia Tech after spotting them 10 points. A week later, they lost convincingly to North Carolina. If Boston College can regroup to beat an already downtrodden Clemson team, it can put itself squarely in the Atlantic spotlight alongside Florida State and Maryland.

DUKE VS. WAKE FOREST, 3:30 P.M.

Duke has only played three conference games, sitting at 1-2. The Blue Devils can even that mark and keep division-wide parity in the Coastal with a win over the Deacons. A team that struggled to win its first ever game in the ACC, this basketball school could be uttering the words "bowl eligible" in a few weeks much in part to the play of quarterback Thaddeus Lewis. Wake Forest holds a disappointing 4-3 record with losses to Navy, Maryland and Miami. Even with quarterback Riley Skinner (the league's passer), Wake ranks among the bottom 20 teams nationally in scoring, rushing and total offense. With that, it's made an overhaul in its offensive scheme, opting for an I-formation set instead of the spread.
