Crews have already begun setting up a stage for the Victoria's Secret PINK concert on the drillfield.

After Virginia Tech students dominated the Victoria's Secret Collegiate Showdown last spring, PINK is coming to campus with a whole new spin on tailgating.
Nearly 17,000 students have already RSVP’d on Facebook to “PINK takes Tech”, and it is hard not to notice the massive stage that has been under construction on the Drillfield this week.
Not only will PINK models Elsa and Jessica be making an appearance, but Gym Class Heroes, Chiddy Bang and DJ Irie will also be performing.
“I know some people have expressed that they were a little disappointed because Gym Class Heroes has already been to Tech," said Katie Smith, a senior English major. "I personally love Gym Class Heroes, so I would love for them to come again, and I didn’t get to see them the first time so I’m excited.”
According to Victoria’s Secret public relations, artists were selected who they thought fit the age demographic of college students and are currently popular.
“I was kinda disappointed," said Jessica Chau, a senior chemistry major. "I was hoping it would be something really big. Gym Class Heroes is okay, Chiddy Bang is alright, but it’s nothing special.”
Victoria Cox, a sophomore communication major, also expressed she wished someone more popular was playing at the event, but added it will be fun regardless.
"Any event that’s held at Tech is a lot of fun, so it should be really cool,” Cox said.
The Collegiate Showdown consisted of several rounds of school face-offs, much like the NCAA national championship model. Schools were matched up for the top eight, top four and finally the top two. The final two were Virginia Tech and Texas, with the Hokies coming out as victors.
Shannon Collins, a senior marketing major and campus representative for Victoria’s Secret, explained the promotion process for the showdown.
“Last semester, the other campus reps and I really tried to promote the Collegiate Showdown by posting on Facebook and Twitter, while also speaking in several classrooms and organizations in Oak Lane,” Collins said.
The event is being is being advertised as more than just a concert on it's facebook event page and on the PINK website.
“Although ‘PINK takes Tech’ will have many aspects of a typical concert, it will have more of a party and tailgate feel to it,” Collins said. “Students can also visit the pop-up truck, which is like a mobile store. The store is selling items from the holiday collection, which is not in stores yet, the VT PINK collection and the limited edition 'Pink takes Tech' shirts.”

As a Hokie Alumni (2009), I am very disappointed and quite frankly embarrassed by the comments made by Tech students both in this article and comment section. If you are not a fan of the musical artists, don't go and definitely don't tell the school paper it's "nothing special." That's disrespectful and will give our school a bad reputation. It's comments like this that will prevent future acts from performing Tech.

For the record, no, I didn't see Magic Mike. I'm a guy who's attracted to women. You shouldn't have assumed I was an angry girl. Believe it or not, I'm actually a heterosexual male who thinks the hyper-sexualization of women's bodies in our culture is a shame.

We are not going to apologize for admiring the female body. Don't judge us. We are not judging you. What they are wearing is identical to what you would see on the beach.
One other thing... If you were selling shoes, would you not have commercials of athletes sporting your shoes? If you were selling a hair product, would you not have people with great hair on your billboard? What is so different about selling underwear and having women wear, I dunno... UNDERWEAR!!?
