“We are looking at everything. I think when we hurry up like that and Logan is in charge, he seems to function very well in that kind of setting. So we are going to look at all that here this coming week,” Beamer said.
One of the weaknesses of the offensive unit so far is the offensive line with four new starters. The running backs have struggled to get yardage and it has reflected poorly on the group’s play.
“I think it has been okay and is getting better all the time,” Beamer said. “I think our athletic ability shows up at times and now it just has to be a consistent performance”
The Hokies are also looking to continue an encouraging streak this weekend as they have won their last 13 true road games, the longest active streak in the country.
Linebacker Jeron Gouveia-Winslow believes playing on the road brings the team closer together and creates a bond.
''I feel like when we travel on the road, it's kind of just us together. When we go in other people's stadiums, we don't have the home crowd like we do at home to help us out,'' he said. ''I feel like, as a team, you definitely have to come closer together and I think it helps us build our chemistry.''
Meanwhile, with a lot of newcomers to this year’s squad including freshman running backs Michael Holmes and J.C Coleman, the concern over how they react to the hostile environment is there.
Coleman, however, assures Tech fans there is nothing to worry about with him.
“I’m very excited. It’s my first away game and I can’t wait,” he said. “I haven’t really thought about it yet, but I know once I go on another opponents’ field it’s going to click for me and I’m very excited for it.”
The No. 13 Virginia Tech Hokies have struggled to produce offensively to the standards set upon them. However, with continued practice time and another weak opponent, the unit may have time to come around.
Pittsburgh has struggled mightily in its first two contests and is the laughing stock of the country right now.
The two face off in Heinz Field on Saturday at noon. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
