Hey there, Hokies!
I have the honor and privilege to represent my wonderful organization, Sigma Alpha, as their first ever homecoming candidate. As a member of the court, I will do my best to honor the tradition at Virginia Tech that is Homecoming.
First, I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I am a senior in animal and poultry sciences with a minor in food science and technology. I have a job after graduation working in the pork industry, which I could not be any more excited about. I am proud to be part of a military family, which has allowed me to travel to many places, experience things I will never forget and learn the true meaning of leadership.
My sponsoring organization, Sigma Alpha, is the only professional agriculture sorority on campus. We strive for scholarship, leadership and service and to promote agriculture both on campus and in the community. This leads me to my campaign, “She’s a Gem, Vote Caitlin M.” The gem is one of the symbols of Sigma Alpha, and my slogan was chosen by my own sorority sisters who believe and understand that I do my best to exemplify what we as a sorority stand for, and that I strive to live by Ut Prosim.
An important aspect of Homecoming this year, which some of you may not know, is that this year marks the 150th Anniversary of the Morrill Land Grant Act that allowed Virginia Tech to become a land grant university in the first place. This land grant act was created under the purpose of teaching branches of learning related to agriculture and others. Help me make this an even bigger year for agriculture on this campus!
Virginia Tech was home to me the moment I stepped onto the campus. I would love to represent you and this university that I love so much as your 2012 Homecoming Queen!
Be a gem, VOTE Caitlin M!
