At the August 13 Blacksburg Town Council meeting, the Council granted 10 different restaurants and businesses downtown permission to use the open-air outdoor seating that was recently completed on College Avenue.
Of the 10 restaurants that applied for seating, Gillie’s will occupy the most space, holding approximately 727 square feet. The Cellar, which already has outdoor seating, is included in the list because it renewed its license.
No fees will be required for patrons in 2013, but starting in 2014, the restaurants using the public space will be required to pay a one-time $100 processing fee on top of $3 per square foot.
After the first year, a renewal fee of $50 will be required.
